Basically, this means a game that should be easy to jump into. For most IO games, you can load up your web browser and jump into the game within a few seconds. You may be able to grasp most of the mechanics within a few minutes. The minimalist graphics will be fairly quick to load up too, which means the minimum amount of stress on your phone bandwidth (most games can be played on the go!). It is worth bearing in mind that IO games do not necessarily need to have all of these features. However, they will require a substantial number of them to meet our definition. Some of these definitions can be expanded a little bit. For example; early IO games would be in 2-D, but as browser technology has improved, you can now find a few of them in 3-D. However, remember that even these 3-D games will be minimal. None of your Call of Duties or anything like that here. Just minimal graphics.
The next big thing in browser-based gaming
We would be confident in saying that IO games are the next big thing in the world of browser gaming. We are positive that everybody reading this would have played a Flash game or two. However, playing these games was quite cumbersome. You had to download and update a whole other program, for starters. Not to mention the fact that Flash was notoriously poor when it came to security and resource hogging. With past multiplayer games, you wouldn’t be able to play them in your browser. You would need to download additional software, which is just annoying.
IO games revolutionize the industry because there is nothing to download. You just head to the website where the IO game is and start playing. Nothing complicated at all. Yes. This genre of game seems to have gravitated towards certain gameplay styles (namely Battle Royale), but they are still incredibly fun games.
